Kalgoorlie Boulder-Western Australia

Kalgoorlie Boulder, Western Australia.

'Herbert Hoover's house in Kalgoorlie ( yes he was mine manager here too, he really got around)'

Amazing Kalgoorlie Boulder. We hopped aboard the Golden Mile Loop Line trolley tram for a 2 hour tour of Kalgoorlie Boulder. One of the first streets we visited was the infamous Hay St in Kalgoorlie – in the early 1990’s this street was lined with brothels, now there are only two remaining working brothels, one we are going to tour over the next couple of days. On to Mt Charlotte lookout, the Super Pit lookout for another view of the Superpit & the huge PC8000 Face Shovel (worth $18.5 million), Boulder City Station, where the tram is now housed, although the last train came through here in 1955 it was once one of the busiest railway stations in the Goldfields.

'Some of the "Pink" houses, others are painted red or green in Hay Street'

The historic buildings in both Boulder (Burt Street) & Kalgoorlie (Hannan Street) are so incredibly beautiful and interesting – one in particular, the Metropole Hotel has a mine shaft in the bar & the outside looks like something out of an Alfred Hitchcock movie, another one the Spire is 24 karat gold leaf paid for by the mines – more about the historic buildings in the next couple of days. This is iconic Australia. Extremely remote, certainly famous and without a doubt unique.
